With the Edit Links feature in Excel, we can set an option to suppress the 'Update Links' message displayed any more. Click Data > Edit Links, see screenshot: 2. In the Edit Links dialog box, click Startup Prompt button at the bottom, see screenshot: 3.

I have a couple of Powerpoint presentations with graphs where the data is linked to an Excel spreadsheet. At one point when I opened the presentation I received a message (Microsoft Office Powerpoint Security Notice) asking if I want to update the links. Now however, not only do I not receive the message allowing me to update the links, but the Edit Links to files option has disappeared from my Office menu. I can update the graphs by opening each one individually (if the Excel file is open) but I have a few hundred slide to update on a regular basis and would like to have it automated (again) Anyone have any suggestions? Both the Excel and Powerpoint file are in the same folder on the C Drive. Baby Step by Baby Step: 1.
Open powerpoint presentation 2. Create new slide 3. Select 'Insert Chart' icon on slide and create a line graph 4.
Right click on graph and select 'Edit data' 5. Enter formulas into worksheet (='C: Link Test Excel Test.xlsSalesV'!$B$2) 6. Close worksheet 7. Save powerpoint presentation Would the file extension have any impact on this? The powerpoint file is.pptx, the Excel files are.xlsm and.xls If it would help I can send you a powerpoint and excel file to look at.

When you add content from external files to a presentation you're preparing in Microsoft PowerPoint, the application offers you two options: embed a copy or link to the original file. Linking reduces the size of your PowerPoint file and simplifies the task of maintaining up-to-date external content in your presentation. Unlike graphic-design applications that offer you a list of the documents linked to a page-layout file, PowerPoint makes it much easier to insert linked files than to see what's linked to your work in progress. To review your linked resources, use the same procedure that enables you to update your links.
